Information About The Possible SUSD November 6th 15% Maintenance And Operations (M&O) Override Ballot Initiative

At its June 2012 meeting, the Governing Board will decide if it will call for this initiative to be placed on the November 6th ballot.

· The proposed override will replace the District’s current K-3 Override re-authorized in November 2009 and the 10% Maintenance and Operations Override re-authorized in November 2007.
· The new 15% M&O Override will continue to support the programs that were added or maintained under the existing K-3 Override and 10% Maintenance and Operations Override. The District has operated with a 10% M&O Override since 1989, and with a K-3 Override since 2005.

The 15% Override will generate an additional $3,179,657 in budget capacity. It will be used to reduce class sizes in Kindergarten-5th grades by 1 and in grades 9-12 by 1, implement the Middle School Concept and provide additional Gifted Services and World Languages, Technology Integration and Staff Professional Learning. See Fact Sheet
Monitoring Temperature and Heat Index

SUSD is committed to protecting the health and safety of our students and staff while providing and encouraging appropriate physical activities and opportunities during the school day. While it is important for children to exercise, we are mindful of the heat index and temperature outside. There are times that students’ activities may be altered due to the weather. We monitor daily the temperature, heat index and air quality as we determine the level of outdoor activity for our students. The level of activity Varies dependent on the physical structure and location of each campus.
In an attempt to enhance and streamline communication regarding the Heat Index, please know that we have added a Heat Index Report and link on Heat Alerts to the front page of all SUSD Web sites.
